Program Objectives and Philosophy

    Soccatoos seek to introduce young children to team sport (specifically soccer) in a warm, caring, unthreatening, and enjoyable environment.

    We aim to foster development of sound fundamental soccer skills, healthy habits and fair play values at an early age.  Further, Soccatoos seeks to introduce children to important group play social skills.

    Our programs are deliberately non-elitist and non-competitive.  We avoid following a blindly elitsist syllabus or  curriculum and we will never promote our programs as a path to stardom or success.

    Rather our programs are all about inclusion, engagement, participation and key learning - through fun.

    The Soccatoos philosophy is that very young children should never be forced to participate in or meet elitist performance expectations or develepment standards. These tend always to favour the best and forget the rest.  Rather, Soccatoos believes that if introduction to team sport is warm, welcoming and ultimately fun, children will eagerly participate, enjoy and learn.

    At Soccatoos, whilst everyone collectively enjoys goals being scored, we place greatest emphaisis on actions leading to child participation, enjoyment, development and incremental achievement rather than solely celebrating outcomes.  For these young children learning soccer for the first time, a fun journey is far more important than the destination.

    For those children choosing to register and play soccer with a local amateur club in later years, Soccatoos will at least have provided them with:

    • confidence and desire - to participate, be involved and develop;
    • basic understanding of match and development disciplines - to assist them to conform, play fairly and respect everyone involved in the game; and
    • sound fundamental soccer skills - to assist them to contest, achieve and enjoy.
